You finally finish animating in Blender. The motion looks smooth. The lighting feels right. You hit render… and suddenly everything looks pixelated. Edges are jagged. Textures feel blurry. Render Resolution: The Base Quality of Your Entire Animation

Every single visual issue in Blender sits on top of your render resolution. If this setting is wrong, nothing else can fully fix pixelation.

Why Resolution Comes First

This isn’t your imagination. Blender is doing this on purpose. Blender’s viewport is designed to:

  • Lower sample counts

In other words, the viewport is optimized for speed, not accuracy. That means the viewport can hide low sampling, weak anti-aliasing, and poor texture filtering, which leads directly into the next major cause of pixelation: sampling.
