As further viewing data is revealed, ‘The Mitchells Vs. The Machines’ surpasses all previous animated films to become Netflix’s most popular animated film.
It was seen by 53 million households in its first 28 days of release, according to Sony Pictures Animation, which produced the picture. We had previously noted the film’s outstanding performance, noting that it had held the top spot on Netflix’s top films list in the United States for nine days in a row.
Although Sony had originally envisioned a theatrical release for the picture in the fall of last year, the company was unable to do so due to the epidemic. Following that, Netflix announced in January that it had acquired the rights to stream the film online.
Netflix’s most-watched animated release to date is The Mitchells vs. The Machines, according to the streaming service’s most recent quarterly earnings report.
It has now become Netflix’s most successful animated feature to date, with Danny McBride and Olivia Colman lending their voices to the title characters.
The sci-fi comedy, which comes from Sony Pictures Animation, director Mike Rianda, and writers Lord and Miller, was watched by 53 million member homes in its first 28 days, according to the streaming service.
This is a larger audience than the 43 million who watched Over the Moon and the 38 million who watched The Willoughby’s in the same time period.
On the film front, it is estimated that Kevin Hart’s Fatherhood would be watched by 74 million people in its first 28 days — the comedy was released on June 18 – according to the report. The streaming service increased the number of people that watched Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead to 75 million, up from the initial prediction of 72 million.
To sum up this time’s industry update, ‘The Mitchells Vs. The Machines’ is the most successful animated film produced by Netflix to date.
