“The Owl House” is a fantasy, comedy TV animation series produced by Dana Terrace. The Owl House has been acclaimed for containing multiple LGBTQ+ characters. This is the first Disney film to have a gay protagonist, according to the studio. The TV animation series was on air on Disney Channel on January 10, 2020.

In order to recover his titles and glory, King, the demon sidekick of rebellious witch Eda and her small demon sidekick Luz, team together. As Eda’s apprentice, Luz learns the ways of magic despite the fact that she has no magical skills of her own.

Representation of LGBTQ+

The Owl House has been acclaimed for containing multiple LGBTQ+ characters, including Luz Noceda and Amity Blight, who are developing a romance.

This is the first Disney film to have a gay protagonist, according to the studio. Despite the fact that prior Disney works featured LGBT characters, they were always secondary ones.

Until Amity, all homosexual Disney characters had their sexuality hinted rather than explicitly presented.

A Disney starring character, Luz is the first to be openly bisexual.

In addition, Dana Terrace confirms that Luz is bisexual, while Amity is confirmed to be a lesbian by the same person.

Similarly, it featured a little girl (Luz in this case, and Dipper and Mabel Pines in Gravity Falls) who travels to a magical land.

Fandom & Criticism

Critics have praised The Owl House. According to Common Sense Media’s Emily Ashby, who gave the show a 4 out of 5 star rating, the show’s quirky and endearing qualities came from combining many aspects. “The show is likely to be one you’ll want to watch with your older kids and tweens, allowing you the opportunity to address these kinds of themes when they come up,” the article continued.
According to LaughingPlace.com’s critic, “The performances fit together well as the variation in their delivery reflects the characters’ varied responsibilities in the Demon Realm.” The TV animation series has been lauded for its unique visuals and voice acting.
As Collider’s Dave Trumbore noted in his review, the TV animation series’ debut episode had “a dark, yet darkly humorous edge to it all.”
Evangelical Christian religious television network CBN noted about the show, saying it was part of a “witch agenda to make witchcraft look positive,”
Ben Bertoli’s review was more favourable: Terrace and those working on the project had created a fantasy world with likable characters.
